Homeschooling: Fall Edition

Fall is officially here- well, after the next two 84-degree days pass here in Knoxville, Tennessee. However, the mornings are perfectly crisp, and I am so happy about it! Homeschooling in the fall is really fun, and I want to share some inspiration for you to incorporate into your homeschool days.

Here's what I am currently doing and planning this fall:

1. We started The Little House on the Prairie series. This series is cozy, so it is perfect for fall! I plan to do fun activities as we read, such as making paper toys, building popsicle-stick cabins, doing fun book reports at the end of each book, and more! 2. Visiting local farms for homeschool field trips. We really love visiting Oakes Farm and Deep Well Farm, and we're trying out Blackburn Farm this year.

3. Lots of early morning fall walks. My kids love to scooter. They love it so much, in fact, that we've had to replace their scooters twice now. We just bought new scooters that they are loving, and I think they are more durable than the old ones. We found theirs at Academy-here is the link if you're in the market for a new scooter.

4. Fall baking. My kids are currently into cooking. This is an important skill to learn from a young age, so I have enjoyed having two sous chefs. We've been enjoying making pumpkin muffins mostly, but they have also helped me prepare dinner many nights. Additionally, I did bake my first ever apple pie and although I forgot to crisscross the dough on top, it turned out so yummy.

5. Festivals. Our family loves a good festival. There are so many festivals to choose from in our area and in East Tennessee. We love attending the Unicoi Apple Festival in downtown Erwin, TN. The downtown area is so picturesque during this festival.

6. Gratitude activities. Thanksgiving is right around the corner! I love to incorporate fun activities that teach my children the importance of gratitude. In my 170+ Creative Writing Prompts for Kids workbook, I have tons of fall-themed, Thanksgiving, and gratitude prompts. I also loving finding craft packs at Hobby Lobby and Dollar Tree that are fall-themed. I recently found a DIY gratitude banner at Dollar Tree that I can't wait to put together with my kids soon!

7. Fall unit study. A fall unit study is the perfect way to have fun while learning. You could study the life cycle of pumpkins or apples for science. Take a journey into the life of a pilgrim for history. Do a deep dive into any fall-inspired topics that your kids are interested in!
