This school year, I have started to incorporate something new and fun to help my kids become better writers. This works for any grade! Every morning, we do something I've started calling "Writer's Corner," and it's been such a great addition to our day. Here's how you do it:
Provide them with a notebook or a writer's corner prompt sheet (free one below) and a pencil.
Write a prompt on the board or verbally give them a prompt.
Have them write an entire paragraph about the prompt.
Once they are finished, have each child stand up and read their paragraph aloud.
Edit the paragraphs together to look for errors and then discuss how to fix them together. This is great for the younger grades as they learn capitalization, punctuation, etc, and it is beneficial for the older grades as they learn how to write more detailed paragraphs and papers.
This helps your children become stronger writers while having fun writing about something new! If you're wondering what types of prompts I use, here are a few we have used this year and a few I have in mind for the rest of the school year! Tell me about your weekend
If you could be one animal, which animal would you be? Why?
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Write a paragraph about a day at the beach
What does Easter mean to you?
