Decorating Your Home For Fall + Ushering In A New Season

I was born and raised in the South, and I’ll never leave. The sweet tea, southern-style cooking, and sweet-as-pie people will always be home to me. One of the best parts about growing up with southern women was watching them decorate for every special occasion and holiday. My love for making my home beautiful came from their influence. It didn’t matter what holiday rolled around; they were pulling out the decor bins and creating something beautiful.
I want to share a few home decorating tips I’ve picked up over the past few years. These tips will work no matter what your budget is, I promise! I also included some photos of my fall decor that I’ve been working on.
Find your personal style + run with it- it doesn’t matter if you like purple polka dots and green wallpaper! If YOU like that style, then you run with it. Your personal style is YOURS only, and you get to live in your space. Don’t let the modern trends and ever-changing tides rob you of your flair. When you do go shop for home decor, always buy with your style in mind. I would call my aesthetic traditional/collected/cozy/with a touch of grandmas house. 😉 I’d love for you to leave a comment on this post and tell me what your style is!
Shop smart-whether your budget is Home Goods, Pottery Barn, or Thrift Store, you can find items that work well in your home. I always shop for things I can use for multiple holidays. For example, I bought six rattan napkin rings recently. I treat rattan as a neutral. I am using them on my fall tablescape and can use them for tons of other holidays, and heck, even just for every day! Also, some of my favorite home decor pieces have been from thrift stores or yard sales. Almost all of my art has been from one of those two places. You can even find seasonal decor at thrift stores, which is where I found Mr. and Mrs. Thanksgiving (see below 😉).
Make it work for you + always cozy-I love to incorporate useful home decor. What does that mean? It means using a pretty wicker basket to hide magazines, toys, etc. Or using a large dresser or chest to keep your everyday items in, such as your keys, purse, etc. I even keep several chunky, crocheted blankets on my blanket ladder that we use every day! Make your home decor beautiful and useful!
Keep your seasonal bins organized-I made the mistake of putting my fall decor bins in the very back of my under-the-stairs closet. Don't be like me! You can purchase plastic bins at all sorts of price points and then only store that holiday in the containers. This makes it easy to run out to your garage or go through your closet and find the items you need. There are even fancy systems now where you can add QR code stickers to the bins so you know exactly what's inside without even opening the container.
Enjoy the process! When you take care of your home and celebrate the seasons, try to soak it all in and enjoy it. What a gift it is to decorate your sacred space where memories are made with your loved ones.
I hope you enjoyed this post and it inspired you to decorate your home for Fall!
