I have entered the age and stage of parenting where my children are beginning to have a whole lot of negative attitudes. From doing schoolwork to brushing teeth, we are battling a lot of huffing, complaining, and sour attitudes towards the things we know we have to do that are good for us. After our last conversation as a family about having a good attitude (even if we don't feel like cleaning our room), I decided to make this printable to hang around our house. You can find your free copy at the bottom of this page, but before you go, I would love to share a few notes that I have shared with my kids on this subject. I am a Christian mom who wants to raise kids who love Christ and who are respectful of authority and others. I am not perfect, but I am learning so much every day and trying to be the best mom I can be. This graphic is also a really great reminder for us, too, when we are having a difficult day! :)
How To Teach Kids To Have A Good Attitude
I remind my kids that it is totally normal to feel annoyed, angry, etc, but those big emotions do not mean we can yell, throw things at our siblings, not do our chores, or be disrespectful.
Hard work is essential and a part of life. Even if we don't feel like doing our chores, we still have to do them. There are many times in life when we won't feel like cleaning, working, doing school work, parenting, etc., but we have to do it anyway and be good stewards of what God has given us.
Having a good attitude is a necessary life skill. Even when life is hard, we can do hard things and have a good attitude while doing it.
A positive attitude can help us get through anything.
Obeying parents is obeying God, as the Bible tells us that we should honor our father and mother.
Remind kids on a grumpy day that things like eating a snack, sitting in the sunshine, resting, etc., can all help us feel better even on the hard days! It may not take away the grumpy feelings, which is fine, but it does help refocus and renew you for whatever the rest of the day brings.
I hope these tips help you as you navigate parenting! The free printable is below. Print it, hang it, and hopefully it will be a great reminder to your family!
